Foscarini Planet

Is it an unknown moon, the helmet of an astronaut, the hull of a creature coming from another dimension? The Planet is for sure no traditional luminaire but rather an unconventional luminous object. It is another result of Foscarini's research. The initial challenge was to create a luminaire out of fabric which is completely blank and which has no inner frame. The idea was to use a load-bearing seam serving both as structure and as decoration at the same time. A system developed for the ""intelligent clothing"" of astronauts inside which the extern embroidery has been implemented with a special wire. By this, the suit also fits to the body without gravity offering an unlimited flexibility as well as room to move. By interpreting this technology anew, Foscarini newly invented a familiar object like the sphere by creating Planet. The initial idea behind this technology was to encompass but here it is used to support. Some special wire was embroidered onto the surface of the fabric. This wire changes its molecular structure when in hot temperatures and thus, it turns into a solid support.
